Approach and background
It can feel like a big decision to come into counselling, some issues feel too big and others too small…
In light of this, I create a safe, non-judgemental space to explore, whatever your issue may be. I believe that building a supportive honest relationship together can help you become more familiar with your patterns of behaviour. It is then through self-awareness that you can begin to live a more choiceful life. I believe that everyone with the right support can find more fulfilling ways to live and reach their potential.
I take a holistic approach and value your individuality and your context – after all we all live complex lives. Ultimately, I believe you are your own best expert, but you might have become stuck somewhere and exploring together can help shift those feelings of ‘stuckness’.
Training, qualifications, and experience
I am a qualified, experienced humanistic counsellor and registered and accredited member of the BACP and I abide by their code of ethics. I draw on a variety of theoretical perspectives, (including Gestalt, Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory). I also use creative explorations and practical tools to help you better understand yourself. I am a BWY qualified yoga teacher and can work with mindfulness and mediation as another form of support to develop.
I have experience of open-ended and time-limited therapy and have worked in both counselling organisations and an NHS setting. I have experience with a wide variety of clients and their issues including relationships, general anxiety, health anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, sadness, low mood, depression, suicidal ideation, loneliness and isolation, anger management, family conflicts, parenting problems, post-natal depression and understanding life transitions.
Prior to working within a counselling context, I also have experience working in large organisations managing teams and services. This has given me experience of the challenges and complexities as we navigate our work environments and relationships.
