Georgina O Evans
ART PSYCHOTHERAPIST, ATTACHMENT-BASED PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPIST (TRAINING)
Approach and background
I am an Art Psychotherapist with a background in mindfulness and yoga teaching. I have wide-ranging experience of helping people to explore their concerns and aim to support clients to work through emotional and psychological challenges. I use an integrative approach including verbal communication, creative expression, and working with myths and symbols, depending on what feels useful for each client. I draw on trauma-informed perspectives, including elements of bodywork, if and where this is required.
Currently I am in training as an Attachment Informed Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and offering this modality. I hold a bio-psycho-social outlook in my work. This means I work with clients to engage in therapeutic enquiry within a sociocultural framework, alongside exploration of unconscious psychological forces and developmentally informed relationship patterns that may be at play. This can be an enjoyable as well as provocative experience en route to gaining self-understanding and discovering ways to feel more connected within oneself and in relation to others and the environment.
Training, qualifications, and experience
I completed a Jungian-based MA Art Psychotherapy qualification at Roehampton University and have over 10 years’ experience of working with young and older adults in various sectors. This includes offering psychotherapy and art therapy in schools and sixth form colleges, higher education, victim support and other third sector organisations, as well as in NHS adult mental health services.
I offer support with the following:
Stress, anxiety, and depression
Identity and body-based challenges
Physical and mental health related concerns
Adult and childhood abuse
Bereavement and loss
Exploring experiences of race, gender, sexuality, migration, relocation
Interpersonal relationship challenges
Challenges stemming from attachment and developmental trauma
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (the regulatory body for Art Psychotherapy in the UK) and adhere to their Art Psychotherapy Standards of Proficiency.
I am a member of the British Association of Art Psychotherapists and follow their professional code of ethics.
I offer supervision to psychotherapists and am an associate lecturer on several therapy and creative arts courses. I am undergoing post-qualification training in Attachment Informed Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Bowlby Centre, leading to second accreditation: UKCP.
